How can I tell if my backflow preventer is leaking from the weep hole?

It’s leaking from the weep hole if water drips or sprays from the relief/vent port when no fixtures are running. A steady drip often means debris or a worn internal check. A stream can indicate freeze or body damage. In Noblesville and nearby Carmel, we service irrigation and domestic backflow preventers.

  • Dry the body and place a paper towel under the vent; watch for wet spots.
  • Close the downstream shutoff; if it still leaks, the fault is inside the device.
  • Cycle the supply valve; note if flow changes.
  • Never plug the vent; shut water and call a pro.
