What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

Top leaks usually come from the cold/hot supply fittings, the T&P valve, or the anode/vent port. Turn off power or gas, then close the cold-water shutoff. Do not tighten gas or electrical parts. Summers can diagnose and repair tank or tankless units and replace failed valves. We offer 24/7 service in Noblesville and Indianapolis. Annual maintenance with a tank flush helps prevent leaks.

  • Kill power or set gas to off.
  • Close the cold-water valve on top.
  • Put a pan or towels and call us.
